Clash of Champions 2020 | Review-ish

Clash of Champions was LIVE! from the Amway Center, in Orlando Florida. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler were absent from the show which meant the Women's Tag Team Championship match was cancelled and Bayley's match against Nikki Cross was changed as Cross was also absent. Before we start the review-ish, I want to state that this is not a play-by-play blog. I like to cut to the chase and talk about the ending of the matches. Let's begin!

Kick off show Match
Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated the Lucha Houseparty to remain SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
I have not seen this match and so I am unable to comment further. I hope this feud is over so Cesaro & Shinsuke move on to defend their championships against new opponents.

Main Card
Triple Threat Ladder Match for the Intercontinetal Championship Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles
What an amazing match this was, all three competitors raised their game here. The bumps on the ladder were quality, Sami's underhanded tactics with the handcuffs played the vital role in him climbing the ladder & winning the match. Winner: and NEW Intercontinental Champion. Sami Zayn.

RAW Women's Championship Match
Asuka (c) vs. Zelina Vega
This was a quick match, Zelina bought the technical side to her game here, it nearly paid off until Asuka reversed a pin attempt to put on the Asuka lock for the win. Winner: and still RAW Women's Champion. Asuka.

After the match, Zelina congratulated Asuka and then attacked her, she walked up to the entrance way and said this isn't over. Rematch on RAW tonight?

United States Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Apollo Crews

Lashley put the Hurt Lock on Crews for the win, this, to me felt like a TV match, minus the commercials every five minutes, I expected RETRIBUTION to make an appearance but it wasn't to be. Sunday is a day of rest after all. Winner: and still United States Champion. Bobby Lashley.

RAW Tag Team Championship Match
Street Profits (c) vs. Andrade & Angel Garza
The referee appeared to botch the count as Andrade looked like he kicked out at two, reports are that Angel Garza suffered an injury. which explains the abrupt ending. Winners: and still RAW Tag Team Champions. Street Profits.

SmackDown Women's Championship Match
Bayley (c) vs ?
Bayley was oringally scheduled to defend her championship against Nikki Cross but plans changed, the champion cut a pre match promo to issue a challenge to anyone backstage. who answered the call? the RAW Women's Champion. Asuka, who won by DQ after she was hit by the steel chair. Sasha made an apperance still wearing the neckbrace to sell the injury, Bayley looked like she was about to take out her former best friend until "The Boss" turned things around to stand tall as Bayley walked away.

Ambualance Match for the WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton

Throughout this match, we saw the "ghosts" of Ortons past make appearances here. Big Show, Christian, Shawn Michaels were the names involved here. This kind of made Drew look weak as you can argue he needed help to get the win, but at the end of the day he got the job done as he gave Orton the Claymore, put him in the ambulance and closed the door for the win. Ric Flair drove the ambulance as the champion celebrated. Winner: and still WWE Champion. Drew McIntyre.

Universal Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
I was looking forward to this match the most and it delivered, we saw Jey raise his game as a serious singles competitor, Roman showed his true heel side by beating up his cousin and demanding he call him "The Tribal Cheif" Uso had some close pinfalls which added to the drama, whilst Roman was asserting his dominance, Jimmy Uso ran down and said to Jey he was going to throw in the towel, this reminded me of the Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago scene from Rocky 4. The attack from Reigns continued which resulted in the towel thrown in. Winner: and still Universal Champion. Roman Reigns.

Paul Heyman put the red lei that Jey wore to the ring, around Romans neck and looked down at Jimmy who called his cousin the "The Tribal Cheif" as the event ended. I can't wait to see what happens next in this story. In regards to the 24/7 Championship, Drew Gulak won the Championship and later lost it back to R-Truth. Also, during the event, there was a commercial for the upcoming WWE draft on the 9th and 12th October respectively. That is it for the review-ish. Until next time, thanks for reading.

Clash of Champions 2020 | Predictions

Clash of Champions will take place this Sunday night. LIVE!  from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. We will see every Championship defended on the night. It is now time to predict the outcomes of the matches below. (in no particular order)

24/7 Championship Match

R-Truth is the current champion, I don't think we will see a proper match for the 24/7 Championship, but I wouldn't rule out multiple backstage segments, with the usual shenanigans and roll ups with new champions crowned throughout the night such as Akira Tozawa and others, ending with Truth getting his "baby" back.

Women's Tag Team Championship Match
Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax (c) vs Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan
Ruby & Liv defeated The (now disbanded) IIconics to earn a shot at the Championships, whereas, Shayna & Nia just won the titles from Sasha & Bayley, the latter is the reason why I do not see new Champions being crowned, at least not at this pay-per-view. Predicted Winners: and still Women's Tag Team Champions. Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Lucha Houseparty
These two teams have been feuding with each for what seems like forever now. WWE  have continued to tease the breakup of the challengers over the past weeks so I expect it to escalate after they lose here.
Predicted Winners: and still SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura.

RAW Tag Team Championship Match
Street Profits (c) vs. Andrade & Angel Garza
This match has the same vibe as the SmackDown match, in regards to how long this feud has gone on for. Zelina Vega has distanced herself from Andrade & Garza to go after the RAW Women's Championship (I'll talk about that match later) It's time for the titles to change hands here.
Predicted Winners: and NEW RAW Tag Team Champions. Andrade & Angel Garza.

The lack of tag team across the brands is an issue, which is why it would've made sense to have a unification match here, so the winners appear on both shows, same as the Women's Tag Team Champions.

Triple Threat Ladder Match for the Intercontinetal Championship
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles
In late August, Sami Zayn returned to SmackDown during the Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles feud to add himself to the mix by claiming he was the true Intercontinental Champion which led to this match being made. This will no doubt be match of the night considering who the participants are, There will be a new champion crowned here.
Predicted Winner: and NEW Intercontinental Champion. Sami Zayn.

United States Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Apollo Crews
I admit I wasn't a fan of "The Hurt Business" but they have been really good watch lately, Lashley has stepped up his game lately, which could leasead to a possible match with Brock later down the line, Apollo has had a lot of title shots and it's time for him to step aside after this for somebody else to have an opportunity. I see a scenario where just when Lashley is about to spear Apollo. the "RETRIBUTION" run in and attack everyone thus leaving this match with no winner.

SmackDown Women's Championship Match
Bayley (c) vs Nikki Cross
Nikki Cross recently won a fatal four match to earn another opportunity to challenge Bayley for the SmackDown Women's Championship. However, her dreams of finally winning the title will unfortunatley be dashed by her friend Alexa Bliss who is currently in a trance by "The Fiend". Predicted Winner: and still SmackDown Women's Champion. Bayley.

I, at first was going to predict that Sasha was going to cost Bayley but their future match (probably at Hell in a Cell) needs to be for the championship to add even more importance.

RAW Women's Championship Match
Asuka (c) vs. Zelina Vega
As announced on social media, this match will be on the kick-off show. I tend to miss the kick-off shows but I'm looking forward to this one. I've always been interested in watching Zelina compete in singles competition and she has been decent so far, she will no doubt bring her "A-Game" against probably the best Women's wrestler in the world today which will result in defeat. Predicted Winner: and still RAW Women's Champion. Asuka.

Universal Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
The build up to this match has been incredible, I praise WWE for including the family history, Roman destroying his cousin here will cement his role as a heel. I cannot wait to see this. BELIEVE THAT!
Predicted Winner: and still Universal Champion. Roman Reigns.

Ambualance Match for the WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton
Drew and Randy, to my recollection, have fought each other since SummerSlam, this one has now reached its endgame, I believe that Keith Lee, who does not have a match at the pay-per-view, will play a vital part in the destination of the Championship. I expect him to probably appear in the back of the ambulance looking angry and attempt to attack Orton which will backfire, what I mean by that is he will inadvertantly hit McIntyre, leading to a win for the Viper. Predicted Winner: and NEW WWE Champion. Randy Orton.

There have been rumours of Orton having a long title run up to WrestleMania next year where he may face Edge for the Championship. We will see about that as the card is subject to change. In regards to what is next for McIntyre? It would make sense for him to feud with Keith Lee after what I have just said. It's only a matter of time til the Scot is a heel again.

That is is for the predictions. Clash of Champions are generally good events to watch. Let's see if this years edition follows suit. I'll be back for the review on, yes, you have guessed it. Monday PM time. Until then, enjoy Clash and thanks for reading.
