The Road to WrestleMania officially begins this Sunday night at the Royal Rumble which will be LIVE from Tropicana Field. Also known as the WWE ThunderDome. This years Royal Rumble will be the first without anyone in attendance due to Covid-19, fans will instead be watching from their homes. Here are the match predictions.
Women's Tag Team Championship Match
Charlotte Flair & Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
Charlotte and Asuka are the current tag team champions, however, they have been involved in individual storylines with Lacey Evans and Alexa Bliss respectively, could Nia and Shayna use that to their advantage and once again become tag team champions when all is said and done? I say yes.
Predicted Winners: and NEW Women's Tag Team Champions. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
Last Man Standing Match for the Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens
This has been one of the best if not THE best storylines on WWE TV in recent memory, respect to both guys involved, credit to Jey Uso and Paul Heyman also. Away from the Royal Rumble matches, this is the Championship match I am looking forward to watching the most. Kevin will no doubt raise his game and do all he can to win here but unfortunately for him it won't be enough because of Roman getting help from his couisn Jey and a possible return by Jimmy Uso towards the end of the match so that the "Tribal Chief" picks up the win. Predicted Winner: and still Universal Champion. Roman Reigns
WWE Championship Match
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Goldberg
This will probably be a quick match lasting around five minutes. Goldberg will attempt to hit Drew with multiple spears early on, but it won't be enough because the champion will turn things around with some Claymore kicks for the win. Predicted Winner: and still WWE Champion. Drew Mcintyre.
Women's Royal Rumble Match Contenders.
1st Pick: Bayley.
Bayley will be probably be one of the final four competitors in the match, if she wins then I think she will challenge her longtime friend and now rival, Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania.
2nd Pick: Bianca Belair.
A victory for the EST of the WWE at the Royal Rumble on Sunday will cement her position as one of the elites in the women's division of the main roster, If she does win then sign me up for a Bianca vs. Sasha match at WrestleMania. That would be a great match and rivalry.
My favourite to win the match: Rhea Ripley.
Rhea has been rumoured to make a move up to the main roster for some time now, she is yet to make an appearance, her debuting in the Rumble and going on to win would make a lot of sense because if Charlotte wins the title from Asuka prior to 'Mania then that would set up a return match between Rhea and Charlotte resulting in Rhea getting some revenge from last years loss.
Men's Royal Rumble Match Contenders.
1st Pick: Goldberg
I would expect Goldberg to lose to Drew in the Championship match and then enter the Rumble match in the late stages depending on the entry number he gets. To be honest with you, it would make sense for him to win this match because he was scheduled to face Roman at the WrestleMania last year before the pandemic hit the world.
2nd Pick: Edge
The "Rated R superstar" announced his entry on RAW. it was a good promo from him as usual. he and Randy Orton were rumoured to face each other at WrestleMania, not sure whether plans have changed in that regard but if they have and he wins on Sunday, I'd expect him to go on challenge Drew for the WWE Championship.
My favourite to win the match: Daniel Bryan.
I picked Daniel Bryan as the favourite to win because he has a ready made storyline with Roman, going back to 2015 where Bryan was over and the crowd in attendance desperately wanted him to win the Rumble match that year but Roman went on to win that night as we all know. I hope that gets mentioned in the build up to the match in April.
At the time of writing this, five matches have been announced so far, more may be added after the SmackDown go home show and on social media. Enjoy the Royal Rumble if you're watching and have a great weekend. Thanks for reading.
