Clash of Champions was LIVE! from the Amway Center, in Orlando Florida. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler were absent from the show which meant the Women's Tag Team Championship match was cancelled and Bayley's match against Nikki Cross was changed as Cross was also absent. Before we start the review-ish, I want to state that this is not a play-by-play blog. I like to cut to the chase and talk about the ending of the matches. Let's begin!
Kick off show Match
Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated the Lucha Houseparty to remain SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
I have not seen this match and so I am unable to comment further. I hope this feud is over so Cesaro & Shinsuke move on to defend their championships against new opponents.
Main Card
Triple Threat Ladder Match for the Intercontinetal Championship Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles
What an amazing match this was, all three competitors raised their game here. The bumps on the ladder were quality, Sami's underhanded tactics with the handcuffs played the vital role in him climbing the ladder & winning the match. Winner: and NEW Intercontinental Champion. Sami Zayn.
RAW Women's Championship Match
Asuka (c) vs. Zelina Vega
This was a quick match, Zelina bought the technical side to her game here, it nearly paid off until Asuka reversed a pin attempt to put on the Asuka lock for the win. Winner: and still RAW Women's Champion. Asuka.
After the match, Zelina congratulated Asuka and then attacked her, she walked up to the entrance way and said this isn't over. Rematch on RAW tonight?
United States Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Apollo Crews
Lashley put the Hurt Lock on Crews for the win, this, to me felt like a TV match, minus the commercials every five minutes, I expected RETRIBUTION to make an appearance but it wasn't to be. Sunday is a day of rest after all. Winner: and still United States Champion. Bobby Lashley.
RAW Tag Team Championship Match
Street Profits (c) vs. Andrade & Angel Garza
The referee appeared to botch the count as Andrade looked like he kicked out at two, reports are that Angel Garza suffered an injury. which explains the abrupt ending. Winners: and still RAW Tag Team Champions. Street Profits.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match
Bayley (c) vs ?
Bayley was oringally scheduled to defend her championship against Nikki Cross but plans changed, the champion cut a pre match promo to issue a challenge to anyone backstage. who answered the call? the RAW Women's Champion. Asuka, who won by DQ after she was hit by the steel chair. Sasha made an apperance still wearing the neckbrace to sell the injury, Bayley looked like she was about to take out her former best friend until "The Boss" turned things around to stand tall as Bayley walked away.
Ambualance Match for the WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton
Throughout this match, we saw the "ghosts" of Ortons past make appearances here. Big Show, Christian, Shawn Michaels were the names involved here. This kind of made Drew look weak as you can argue he needed help to get the win, but at the end of the day he got the job done as he gave Orton the Claymore, put him in the ambulance and closed the door for the win. Ric Flair drove the ambulance as the champion celebrated. Winner: and still WWE Champion. Drew McIntyre.
Universal Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
I was looking forward to this match the most and it delivered, we saw Jey raise his game as a serious singles competitor, Roman showed his true heel side by beating up his cousin and demanding he call him "The Tribal Cheif" Uso had some close pinfalls which added to the drama, whilst Roman was asserting his dominance, Jimmy Uso ran down and said to Jey he was going to throw in the towel, this reminded me of the Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago scene from Rocky 4. The attack from Reigns continued which resulted in the towel thrown in. Winner: and still Universal Champion. Roman Reigns.
Paul Heyman put the red lei that Jey wore to the ring, around Romans neck and looked down at Jimmy who called his cousin the "The Tribal Cheif" as the event ended. I can't wait to see what happens next in this story. In regards to the 24/7 Championship, Drew Gulak won the Championship and later lost it back to R-Truth. Also, during the event, there was a commercial for the upcoming WWE draft on the 9th and 12th October respectively. That is it for the review-ish. Until next time, thanks for reading.
